Blackpaw Studio vs AI app builders

Updated October 2026

Short answer

Use an AI app builder to test an idea before real users or real data are involved. Paid plans start at $20–$25 a month. Pick me, Evan Coleman of Blackpaw Studio, a solo senior engineer, once the app is about to hold customer data or payments, or if you need a native iOS app. I'd start with the Production Readiness Audit at $1,500 flat, which is credited toward any build.1, 2, 3

Who should pick what

Pick an AI builder if…

  • You're testing an idea. Lovable Pro is $25 a month, Bolt Pro is $25 and Replit Core is $20.1, 2, 3
  • A web app is enough. Lovable says it builds web applications and doesn't generate React Native projects.4
  • No real users or real data are involved yet, so a security hole has nothing to leak.
  • You're comfortable reading and fixing what it generates, or you only need a demo.

Pick me if…

  • The app is about to hold customer data or take payments.
  • You need a native iOS app. Lovable's options for mobile are a PWA, or wrapping the published URL with Capacitor outside Lovable.4
  • You've already built something and want a senior engineer to tell you what's dangerous in it. The audit is $1,500 flat, takes a week, and the fee is credited toward any build.
  • You want one person who answers for the result.

CostAudit $1,500 flat, credited toward any build. MVP from $15,000. Ongoing support from $2,700 a month.Lovable Pro is $25 a month for 100 credits, Bolt Pro is $25 a month from 10 million tokens, and Replit Core is $20 a month. Replit moved to effort-based pricing in June 2025, and in July it said that can end up being more expensive over the lifetime of a project.1, 2, 3, 5
Time to startOne week for the audit. For a build, a written scope and fixed price first, then work starts once the first milestone payment is in.You can start on a free plan: Lovable gives 5 build credits a day, capped at 30 a month, and Bolt gives 300K tokens a day.6, 2
Who does the workMe. On an existing app I read the code, fix what's dangerous and write up the rest. On a build I write it.An AI agent writes the code from your prompts. Lovable apps created since 2026-05-13 use TanStack Start, older ones use React and Vite, and the backend is PostgreSQL through Lovable Cloud or Supabase. Lovable produces web apps and has no native mobile output.4
Who's accountable when it breaksMe. The audit report ranks what's dangerous and I fix the critical items. On a build, I correct defects in the agreed scope for 30 days after delivery. You, as the app's owner. CVE-2025-48757 describes an insufficient row-level security policy in Lovable, through 2025-04-15, that let unauthenticated attackers read or write database tables of generated sites. It scores 9.3 (Critical) on CVSS 3.1, and the record is marked "disputed by the supplier", with the note that customers own their app's data protection. In July 2025 a Replit agent deleted a user's production database during a code freeze. Replit's CEO called that "unacceptable and should never be possible" and said Replit would roll out automatic separation of dev and prod databases.7, 8
What you own at the endSource code, designs and other assets are assigned to you once you've paid in full. For an audit, the fixes go into your own repository.Terms differ by tool and I haven't compared them. Read each one for who owns the output and whether you can take the code with you.

Questions

Which tools does this compare?

Lovable, Bolt.new, Replit Agent and v0. I priced the first three. I left out v0's price because I couldn't confirm what its Plus plan costs.

Have these tools had security problems?

Some, yes. CVE-2025-48757 covers an insufficient row-level security policy in Lovable through 2025-04-15. It scores 9.3 (Critical) on CVSS 3.1, and the record is marked "disputed by the supplier". In April 2026 a researcher said any free Lovable account could read other users' source code, database credentials and chats using five API calls. Lovable first said it had not suffered a data breach and called public-project code visibility intended behavior. It later apologized and blamed HackerOne for closing the earlier report without escalation. Separately, Veracode found AI-generated code introduced risky security flaws in 45% of its tests, across more than 100 models and four languages. The report doesn't give a task count.7, 9, 10

Can these tools build a native iOS app?

Lovable says it builds web applications and doesn't generate React Native projects. Its options are a PWA, or wrapping the published URL with Capacitor outside Lovable. I haven't verified what Bolt or Replit say about mobile, so check them yourself. I build native iOS apps, with MVPs from $15,000.4

What does the audit cover?

I review security, deployment, CI/CD and bugs in the app you built, write a prioritized report in plain English, and apply the critical fixes. It's $1,500 flat, takes one week, and the fee is credited toward any build.

Already built it?

The Production Readiness Audit is $1,500 flat and takes one week. The fee is credited toward any build.
